History

The vision of Shalem came from a long time dream of a few dedicated South Bay families.  As CTJ revitalized and remodeled their beautiful facility, there was the hope that upon completion there would be a Jewish preschool in Manhattan Beach where some of these families had celebrated many of life’s milestones.  However, as the building was finished, the synagogue was not quite ready to start a preschool.

A few years later, the same families again got together to create Shalem - a school where extremely low teacher to student ratios would exist and a pluralistic approach to learning and Judaism would be celebrated. They approached CTJ with an exciting proposal - rent their preschool space to Shalem and create a partnership with the school.

It is with great excitement that an agreement has been reached and Shalem’s first students will be welcomed this Summer, 2018!
